7 Things You Might Be Forgetting to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

Not only do you have to pack your own things, but you also have to pack things for your baby too! How exciting! It has been from my experience that most of the baby items were provided by the hospital (diapers, wipes, etc). I’m sure you already packed your own stuff and the most adorable going home outfit for your baby, but here are 7 things you might be forgetting.

Here are some things I remembered to pack ONLY because the nurse from our labor and delivery class gave us a check list. I hope this helps you when you pack up your hospital bag.

Check/Cash For The Birth Certificate

I would have never thought about packing my check book in my hospital bag until the nurse from labor and delivery class told us about it. The hospital we gave birth at only accepted check or cash for your baby’s birth certificate. It was $12 total but I don’t usually carry cash or checks so I’m glad she told us about it.

Comfortable Pajamas & Robe

They give you a hospital gown to wear, but I don’t like how they expose you in the back. I made sure to bring comfortable pajamas with my second that I could easily nurse baby in. Plus, you look more put together when visitors come 😉

Soft Nursing Pads

Before baby arrived I bought some nursing pads from bamboobies and Oh. My. Goodness, they are so soft and they were a life savor. I was pretty sore when my milk came in and I didn’t want anything touching me except these soft nursing pads. If you plan on breastfeeding, I highly recommend getting soft washable nursing pads.

Swaddle Blankets

Our hospital did provide a few swaddle blankets, but I brought my own because they are better quality and I could actually swaddle my baby with them. The hospital ones were small and I could never get them swaddled snug. I personally use the aden + anais swaddle blankets and I love how soft they are.

Onesies For Baby

This one is totally up to you, but additionally to the going home outfit I packed a few onesies. With my oldest we just kept her in a diaper and a swaddle during the hospital stay, but with my second we had her in onesies the entire stay since the weather was a bit cooler.

Baby Book

As soon as I gave birth to Arwen (my oldest) and Ember (my second), the nurse asked if we had the baby book along so she could put baby’s foot prints right in the baby book! So if you don’t want to do it yourself later, I recommend that you bring the baby book along.

Snacks

My oldest was born at 2 a.m. and my second was born at 10:40 p.m. By the time we got to our room, we couldn’t get a meal because they were either closed or super busy and couldn’t bring us our food for several hours. Fortunately we packed some snacks to hold us over until we could get some real food. It’s always a good idea to pack snacks 😉

What did you pack in your hospital bag that you would recommend to other people?
