12 Best Game Night Games for Big Groups
We love having people over to our house. Hosting is something both my husband and I are passionate about. Every year we have a Christmas party at our home and several game nights throughout the year. Because of that I thought it would be great to share the 12 best game night games for big groups. Some of the games require getting the actual game and some you can just use what’s around the house.
I listed the top 12 games we actually like to play at our parties and game nights (especially for big groups). I’m sure there are many more out there, so if I don’t list some of your favorite games please share in the comments! 😉

Reverse Charades
You probably heard of Charades already, but this is reverse charades! Everyone acts out while one person guesses. A twist to the classic. We usually split up in several groups and compete to see which group gets the most points.
Fish Bowl
Fish Bowl is really easy and it includes the combination of charades and catch phrase. Great for a big group that you can divide up into teams. You just need to have a bowl, paper, and pen.
The Sock Game
Thanks to #Tryazon and #Spin Master Games I was sent The Sock Game. I never heard of it before until this year and it was a blast to play with a big group. Talk about seeing people get competitive and get their adrenaline pumping! The game is pretty straightforward. You have two socks with the same items in the sock, whatever object the spinner lands on you must get out of the sock. Whoever gets the right item out gets 1 point. Whichever team reaches 11 points first wins!
Pictionary
Another classic game we like to play. Typically you divide the group in two teams (you can divide people up in more than 2 teams if you want). All you need is paper and pen or a white dry-erase board and markers. You don’t need the board game and just have some ideas on pieces of paper before you start the game. It’s fun to do themed ones too!
5 Second Rule
A very simple game you can play with big groups. It’s fun to see what categories people are good at or to just watch them panic as 5 seconds goes by lol.
Spit out 3 answers to the category of the card in 5 seconds. If you can’t then it goes to the next person!
4 On A Couch
My husband taught me this game when we first started dating. This is another fun game that you only need paper and a pen. If you have a good memory then you will have an advantage! We play this game almost every single year and it’s a favorite to play with a big group.
Puno
I am not 100% sure if this is a legit game or not, but some friends taught me how to play Puno in college. You need a big deck of regular Uno Cards. It’s like super uno with added elements. The larger your group the faster the pace is. For example, when a 0 is laid then everyone must cover their mouth. Whoever is last must draw 2 cards.
Who am I?
Similar to hedbanz but I just create my own with paper and pen. You can pick a theme or just write names, objects, animals, or things that everyone playing will know and hand them to each person. I usually just tape it on their back with scotch tape. I’ll link the game Hedbanz below, but you can just as easily create your own with paper like I do 😉
Catch Phrase
My Grandma even loves playing this game! Catch phrase is another pretty straight forward game that you can play in a large group. Make sure you have the same amount of people on each team.
Mafia
Here is another fun game that you don’t need to buy anything for. There just needs to be a narrator and he or she can select who will play what role (or use a deck of cards). Usually there is just the mafia, cop, nurse, and the rest being towns people, but you can assign additional roles if you have a big group (which is a lot of fun)! Make sure you have a great narrator because that can seriously make or break the game.
Ultimate Outburst
One of my favorite games to play while relaxing on the couch. This can be played with just 2 players all the way up to a big group of people divided up into 2 teams.
Spoons
If you’ve played musical chairs before then you will catch on to this game quickly. All you need are spoons (1 less than however many people are playing) and a deck of cards. If you have a large group playing you can try to match the suite of the cards instead. Another option is to use several decks of cards.

I love these ideas! We host big game nights often and the 5 Second Rule is one of our favorites.
Thank you! Yes! The 5 second rule is so simple and fun. I know some people aren’t up to learning new games, but it’s so straightforward that everyone enjoys playing it even if they never played it before 🙂
It wad my brothers birthday last Saturday and we playrd charades. I couldn’t believe there were people in the room rhat hadn’t played before xx
Wow! Really? I am surprised! I know the reversed charades was perfect for people who are more on the introverted side. It seemed like everyone had fun with that one 😉
Okay, I am totally bookmarking this. I want to throw a couples game night soon and these are some really great ideas. Thanks for sharing boo.
Thank you! I hope you have lots of fun with these games 🙂 I know we do when we host game night!
What a fun list! We’re a huge game family, and recently got together with a LOT of family and realized our highest game went up to 7 people (except maybe uno but no one wanted to play that). Great ideas, we will probably add most of these to our collection!
Thank you! My husband is the oldest of 7 kids, so we play a lot of games that are for big groups 🙂
Love this post. We are always looking for fun new group games for game night. Thanks!
