How To Organize Your Clothes – Bottoms –

This post is part 2 of organize your clothing series. If you missed part 1, How To Organize Your Clothes -Tops-, make sure to check that out first. Now that you have completed organizing your tops we are moving on to bottoms. Bottoms include pants, shorts, and skirts.

How to organize your clothes - bottoms -

Step 1

Pull out every single clothing item that are considered bottoms like pants, shorts, and skirts. Be sure to get out items that are put away in storage too. Once you have everything make sure to separate them into categories.

Some examples of categories could be work pants, jeans, leggings, yoga pants, shorts, skirts, and so on.

Step 2

After separating your bottoms into categories, start holding each item and go through the keep checklist. This will help you determine what to keep. Make sure to separate them into the 4 different piles that I mention in How To Organize Your Tops which are KEEP, SELL, DONATE/RECYCLE, and TRASH.

Do you want more details of the keep checklist? Part 1 of the series includes all of the details!

Step 3

Now that you know what you want to keep and what to get rid of let’s put our keep pile back in order. Skirts and dress pants might be best to be placed on hangers depending on their materials. Jeans, shorts, leggings, and other type of pants can be placed in your dresser or in a crate or box.

My Personal Inventory

After going through all of my bottoms, I got rid of a ton of jeans and skirts. Just like my tops I had a bunch of jeans, pants, and skirts from middle school and high school that I just never wear. I mostly donated them or gave them away.

Here is my current inventory. Updated July 2019.

  • Jeans (2)
  • Pants (2)
  • Shorts (3)
  • Yoga pants & leggings (5)
  • Athletic shorts (2)
  • Skirts (1)

Does this seem like a lot or a lot less? This year is year 4 for me for decluttering and organizing using the konmari method. I hope this is encouraging to you 🙂

How do you store your bottoms? Do you hang them up or fold them away in a bin or dresser?
