How to Organize Your Clothes – Dresses & Other One pieces –

Moving on to organizing the third category in clothing! If you are wondering what one pieces are, they are items like rompers, overalls, and anything else that is “one piece.”

If you haven’t already make sure to checkout Part 1 and Part 2 of the series of organizing your clothes!

How to organize your clothes - dresses and one pieces

Step 1

Just like with your tops and bottoms you need to pull out every single piece of clothing that is considered a one piece item. If you have a lot of dresses and one pieces go ahead and separate them in different categories such as summer, winter, length, dresses, rompers, and so on.

Have you been keeping prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses? Go ahead and include these dresses in a category so you can go through these too!

Step 2

After separating your bottoms into categories, start holding each item and go through the keep checklist. This will help you determine what to keep. Make sure to separate them into the 4 different piles that I mention in How To Organize Your Tops which are KEEP, SELL, DONATE/RECYCLE, and TRASH.

Step 3

Now that you know what you want to keep and what to get rid of let’s put our keep pile back in order. Dresses and rompers are best placed on hangers especially with most materials for dresses. By hanging these you can avoid wrinkles. You could separate them by season, color, length, then type.

Personally Organizing My One-Pieces

I used to work at the J. Crew warehouse, which meant that I got an employee discount and was able to access the warehouse sales before the sale was open to the public. My favorite things to buy were the dresses and shoes.

I had summer dresses, winter dresses, and sometimes the exact same dress but in different colors. It was nice to have different variety of dresses and in different colors, but they were just taking up too much closet space and were simply unnecessary.

After going through the keep checklist I got rid of most of my dresses. Especially dresses that I had multiple of but in different colors. I love wearing black because it’s easy to pair with other colors, so the few dresses I did keep are mostly black.

Wedding Dress

Now, I want to talk a little bit about wedding dresses or clothing that is sentimental in some way. If your wedding dress brings you joy please keep it by all means! I LOVE my wedding dress and I’m planning on keeping it until I die 😉

Do you have a lot of one piece items? What is your favorite piece of clothing?
