How To Organize Your Clothes -Season Specific Clothing-

Part 5 of organizing your clothes are season specific clothing. For summer items that could be bathing-suits and hats. For winter items that could be coats, gloves, scarves, and snow boots. These items may already have a designated spot since they usually aren’t used all year long (unless you live somewhere that the weather doesn’t drastically change). Let’s get organizing!

Make sure to check out the other parts of the series of How to organize your clothes. Part 1 is organizing tops, part 2 is bottoms, part 3 is dresses/one-pieces, and part 4 is socks/underwear/pajamas.Β

Step 1

Pull out every single clothing item that are season specifics. Make sure to get any items that may be out in the garage, basement, attic, or any storage units. Once you have everything go ahead and separate them into categories. The easiest way to do that may be to categorize by season – summer items and winter items.

Step 2

After separating your season specific clothing into categories, start holding each item and go through the keep checklist. This will help you determine what to keep. Make sure to separate them into the 4 different piles that I mention in How To Organize Your Tops which are KEEP, SELL, DONATE/RECYCLE, and TRASH.

Step 3

Now that you know what you want to keep and what to get rid of let’s put our keep pile back in order. Since these are season specifics I like to use big plastic totes and space savor bags that you can vacuum seal.

Storage Totes

Big storage totes are great if you have space area like an attic, basement, or a big closet. I recommend that you use clear plastic totes so you can easily see what is in the tote.

Vacuum Seal Bags

If you don’t really have a lot of extra space then I highly recommend the vacuum seal bags. There are different sizes you can get, but I usually get the big ones so I ca fit big and bulky items. You can even use these for big blankets too!

Good Quality Hangers

Get some good quality hangers if you have a coat closet that you can keep your coats in.

Winter Specifics

For my winter stuff I store them all in my coat closet. I got some nice wooden hangers (like the image above) to hang all of our coats. For hats, gloves, and scarves, I got a clear plastic tote (smaller kind) and placed them on their side so I could fit everything and be able to see every item.

Summer Specifics

For summer specifics, I didn’t have as much to organize compared with my winter stuff. I store my bathing-suits and cover up in one of my drawers in my dresser. As for my summer hats, they get placed in the coat closet too since it’s right by the door.

I haven’t done this yet, but I’m thinking about adding command hooks inside of my coat closet to hang all of the hats for easy access. Check out my Instagram for pictures and videos about some of the organizing hacks and tips!
